As Independence Day celebration comes to a close, the Go Build Georgia team would like to join the nation in extending a sincere thank you to all military servicemen and women who work and have worked to keep our country safe. Our freedom serves as a perfect everyday reminder of the sacrifices these military men and women have made for both our families and our nation.
More than 770,000 veterans call Georgia home and an estimated 60,000 of these military members will be leaving active duty by 2016. The Governor’s Office of Workforce Development is working diligently to ensure that these veterans and their spouses transition quickly and seamlessly into the civilian workforce.
In fact, in early April, Gov. Nathan Deal signed the Veterans Licensure Bill into law. By expediting specified* licensure processes for qualified veterans and their spouses, this law helps our returning heroes shorten their transition period after arriving home. The Veterans Licensure Bill also creates a way to help veterans use their military certifications to obtain professional licenses. This new process will help veterans join the workforce quickly and assist the state in filling the 60,000 skilled trade openings projected to exist by 2020, thus benefiting job-seekers and employers alike. For more information about the bill, please visit this website.
The online resource, Operation: Workforce, is the perfect portal to find quick and updated information for veterans and state employers. Veterans can search for jobs using their Military Occupational Job Code, browse Georgia companies who have taken the pledge to consider veterans for open positions, and create an account that allows employers to look at applicants’ skills. Employers can use this site to create profiles and upload information about job opportunities for veterans. An extensive list of helpful links for veterans is also included on the site here.
From everyone here on the Go Build Georgia team, we hope you had a happy Fourth of July!
